THE Australian Maritime Safety Authority has taken another step toward simplifying the commercial vessel survey regime, releasing the final regulation impact statement (RIS) after public consultation for a future approach to the regime.
The proposed survey reforms in the RIS aim to provide more flexibility in the regime.
Significant proposed changes include aligning survey frequency on an individual vessel basis, reducing the number of out-of-water surveys required where risks are mitigated through other measures, and allowing surveys to be more easily aligned with other vessel maintenance.
The next step in the process is to enshrine the changes in Marine Order 503 (certificates of survey). The revised marine order is to be open for public consultation during April and May, with the new survey arrangements coming into force on 1 July.
