DEPUTY Prime Minister and Coalition agriculture minister, Barnaby Joyce, has been ruled to have been a kiwi at the time of his most recent election to the House of Representatives.

Mr Joyce, one of five Australian federal parliamentarians to be caught out over rules surrounding dual citizenship (former minister Matt Canavan and independent Nick Xenophon have been given the all-clear), will now have to recontest his seat of New England during a by-election in early December.

Independent Nick Xenophon and former federal Liberal minister Matt Canavan will be able to remain in Parliament.

Mr Joyce has been a vocal advocate for trade and farming, albeit his ideas aren’t always in agreeance with some exporters, and has taken a keen interest in infrastructure issues such as Inland Rail.
