BASS Island Line has thanked Grassy port users for following the speed limit within port boundaries.

A speed monitoring system operates on the King Island wharf and as a truck enters the wharf’s operational area the monitoring system registers the vehicle’s speed.

The speed limit on the wharf is 10kmh.

BIL manager operations Rhys Cropper said prior to implementing the speed monitoring system some trucks had exceeded the speed limit.

“Since implementing the speed monitoring system the outcome has been outstanding,” Mr Cropper said. “We have observed a positive change in behaviour from truck drivers and we’re grateful for that.”

Mr Cropper, who recently took on the manager operations role from Tom McBroom, said the ultimate result was about making the Port of Grassy safe for everybody.

“Safety is our number one priority and I’d like to express my thanks to all the truck drivers for coming on board and following the speed limits,” he said.
