A replacement chair is expected to be announced soon.
The live export industry is under intense pressure after the Nine Network broadcast footage of sheep on board ships dying from heat stress and lying in their own filth.
While Mr Littleproud has announced plans for harsher penalties but government backbenchers have already tabled legislation that would end the live export of sheep altogether.
