MID West Ports Authority staff marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, trading the standard orange and blue personal protective equipment for a splash of pink.
With more than 140 staff working at the port, more than 70% chose to participate in the initiative and made a personal donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
MWPA chief executive Rochelle Macdonald said together they had raised $1512.55.
“We took part in the pink shirt initiative to stand by those who have been affected by breast cancer,” she said.
“Everyone has been touched by it in some way, whether it be themselves, their friends, sisters, mums or grandmas. Our staff are no different and we wanted to do our part in showing them our support.
“Until we find a cure, making sure people are aware of the signs and symptoms is crucial and initiatives like the pink shirt campaign are a perfect way of getting the message out there.”
MWPA has committed to taking part in the annual October awareness initiative in coming years.
