New ABF commissioner to be sworn in

MICHAEL Outram APM is to be sworn in as commissioner of the Australian Border Force today (14 May).

In a joint release, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and home affairs minister Peter Dutton said since the ABF was established in 2015, Mr Outram had played a fundamental role in developing the agency, first as Deputy ABF Commissioner of Operations, and then as Acting Commissioner.

“Mr Outram has provided the ABF with exceptional leadership, with a strong focus on operational excellence, professionalism, culture and values,” the statement read.

Mr Outram has been acting as commissioner since the former ABF commissioner, Roman Quaedvlieg, was on leave pending an investigation into alleged inappropriate behaviour; Mr Quaedvlieg was formally sacked in March.
