MARITIME industry stalwart Noel Hart has been re-appointed as commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB).
His appointment will begin on October 1 and will continue for two years.
ATSB Chief Commissioner Greg Hood said Commissioner Hart’s re-appointment was excellent news, both for the Bureau and for transport safety in Australia.
“Commissioner Hart was first appointed to the ATSB in July 2009 and he has proven to be a highly credible and respected Commissioner” he said.
“His maritime knowledge and experience are well established, and his time with the ATSB has not only provided him with important insights into the other modes of transport, but has also enabled him to positively contribute to investigations in the aviation and rail sectors.”
Commissioner Hart has extensive experience in the maritime industry spanning more than 40 years.
His qualifications include a first-class Master Mariner ticket in addition to an MBA.
He has held management positions with BP Shipping in Melbourne, London and Chicago.
From 2006 to 2009, Mr Hart was general manager of the North West Shelf Shipping Service Company where he was responsible for the safe shipping of natural gas from north-western Australia to the world.
He has also been chairman of Maritime Industry Australia Ltd (MIAL) since 2008.
