Pilbara Ports Authority reports average September throughput

THROUGHPUT at the bulk ports colossi in the Pilbara over September was in line with throughput tonnage for the same month last year.

Pilbara Ports Authority reported that its ports handled a total of 59.4m tonnes for last month.


Port Hedland’s throughput for the month was 44.1m tonnes, of which 43.5m tonnes was iron ore exports. PPA noted that these numbers were also in line with last year’s.

However, imports through Port Hedland rose 3% over last year to 144,000 tonnes last month.

Port of Dampier’s total monthly throughput increased 5% on September last year to 14.4m tonnes this past month.

Imports through Dampier increased 66% to 115,000 tonnes last month.

Port of Dampier recently received approval to begin exports of ammonium nitrate, a main ingredient in explosives and fertiliser.
