Pilbara reports 24-hour throughput record

PILBARA Ports Authority continues to beat records, with a new 24-hour throughput record reported in its August shipping figures.

The new 24-hour record of 2.478m tonnes was reported over two tides and 14 vessels on 22 and 23 August, a 3% increase on the previous record.

Pilbara Ports Authority reported a total throughput of 58.4m tonnes for August, representing an increase of 1% on the same month last year.

Port Hedland’s monthly throughput was 43.2m tonnes, a decrease of 1% on the same month in 2017.

Of Port Hedland’s total throughput, iron ore exports accounted for 42.4m tonnes.

Imports through the port in August totalled 111,000 tonnes for the month, a decrease of 20% on the same period last year.

Throughput at the Port of Dampier totalled 14.4m tonnes for the month, which was unchanged compared with August 2017.

However, imports through Dampier decreased 15% on August 2017 to 76,000 tonnes.
