PILBARA Ports Authority’s monthly throughput continued a downward trend in November, with 56.1m tonnes of freight passing through the ports over the month.
November’s totals are a decrease of 234,000 tonnes on the same month in 2016, and a decrease of 2% from October (57.1m tonnes) and 5% in September (59.2m tonnes).
Port Hedland, that colossus of ore exports, saw a 2% increase on November 2016’s throughput delivering 42.3m tonnes last month.
It comes as no surprise that iron ore was Hedland’s major export commodity, with 41.3m tonnes exported in November.
Imports totalled 189,000 tonnes, which was an increase of 19% on the same month last year.
Turning to Port Dampier, last month’s figures show a 7% decrease on the same month last year, with 13.6m tonnes total throughput in November 2017.
Imports through the port likewise decreased 7% to 78,000 tonnes.
