A LIBERIAN-flagged ro ro vessel, Trans Future 7, helped rescue six sailors from a stricken yacht in Bass Strait earlier this month.
According to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, six crew members were rescued from their racing yacht Hollywood Boulevard on Sunday January 14 about 150km east of Flinders Island.
Crew reportedly activated their distress beacon round 8.45am on the Sunday after their rudder sustained damage and the yacht began taking on water.
The AMSA Challenger jet from Melbourne was able to locate the yacht as it pitched in rough seas.
“Two rescue helicopters from Ambulance Victoria winched the crew members to safety by 1.30 pm while a merchant vessel, Trans Future 7, provided cover from the elements,” AMSA reported.
“Victoria Police and Marine Rescue New South Wales also provided assistance during the rescue.”
Trans Future 7 (IMO 9326093) is currently in New Zealand waters.
