PILBARA Ports reported a total monthly throughput increase of 5% to 59.2m tonnes of cargo for the month of September for all of the ports that it manages.
The month’s cargo numbers reflect a 2% increase on August 2017’s throughput.
Port of Port Hedland, of course, handled the largest share of PPA’s total in September with 44m tonnes or 36% of PPA’s total throughput.
Hedland’s total throughput was up 4% on the same month last year.
Iron ore accounted for nearly all of the Port’s throughput, or 43.3m tonnes, an increase of 4% on last year.
Imports through Hedland increased 17% from the same month in 2016 to 140,000 tonnes.
Port Dampier’s total throughput also saw an increase on September 2016 – 9% to 15.2m tonnes.
This increase was despite a 2% decrease in imports to 69,000 tonnes.
