EXPORT Council of Australia head of product and skills development, Collins Rex, recently participated in a trade roundtable with senior figures from the government of Belgium.
These included Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Didier Reynders, the Ambassador of Belgium to Australia, Jean-Luc Bodson and several Australian-based Belgian businesses.
The discussions were hosted by BNP Paribas and centred around free trade agreements (FTAs) and the need for an Australian/ European Union deal.
Collins Rex presented the work the ECA has done in the area of FTA education, including its website, www.ftatool.com.au, the various research undertaken by the ECA and work with the Australia China Business Council to educate SMEs on the utilisation of ChAFTA.
Mr Rex also previewed the soon-to-be-released ANZ website, ‘ANZ Be Trade Ready’, for which the ECA developed content around markets and FTAs.
This included a comparison between Australia’s FTAs with various markets and other FTA markets more generally.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, total merchandise trade between Belgium and Australia in 2015 was worth A$2.9bn
