SCOTT Morrison is the new Prime Minister of Australia after defeating Peter Dutton in a ballot over who would lead the Liberal Party.

This followed former PM Malcolm Turnbull’s decision not to contest a leadership spill brought on by Mr Dutton.

Josh Frydenberg has been elected Liberal deputy leader, replacing Julie Bishop who had also sought the top job.

Announcements of cabinet position are still to be made.

Keen interest is expected to be expressed in the portfolios of Home Affairs, trade and infrastructure.
