MEMBERS of the Maritime Union and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union staged a rally at Carrington, Newcastle on Tuesday.
The rally was in protest at the use of overseas workers on the vessel Helvetia (IMO 9614696), a Swiss-flagged general cargo ship.
It is understood the ship has been used to ship wind farm components.
MUA acting branch secretary Dennis Outram told Lloyd’s List Australia the matter related to work performed on the components.
He said initial information was scarce but that such work was done by members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, not the MUA.
Mr Outram said while the MUA supported its AMWU comrades, there would be no secondary action.
