NORTH Queensland Bulk Ports is planning refurbishment works at Evans Landing Wharf at the Port of Weipa.
The works are to be carried out on behalf of Rio Tinto, and include the replacement of the wharf deck; repair and replacement of steel members; blasting and painting of the steel substructure; and replacement of handrails
NQBP acting chief executive officer Brendan Webb said the tender process is complete and a project start date is being finalised.
“Queensland-based Wisely Group is the appointed contractor,” he said.
“We expect the works will begin in early August and take about three months to complete.”
While the work is ongoing, NQBP said public access to Evans Landing Wharf and the nearby parking area would be restricted for safety.
Mr Webb said NQBP was working with Rio Tinto and users of the wharf to minimise disruption.
“We recognise that Evans Landing Wharf is used by the Weipa community as a recreational facility as well as being an operational asset for the Port of Weipa,” he said.
