A $30m distribution centre is due to be opened in the Perth Suburb of Kenwick by the Australian logistics and transport firm Northline.

The facility will be able to facilitate B-double and road train movements at the 30,000-square-metre site.

Northline chief executive officer Craige Whitton said Perth is an important market for the company.

“Western Australia regional areas are serviced daily by the Northline’s Perth-wide road-based network,” Mr Whitton said.

“The new facility recognises the need to provide multi-modal solutions through the integration of road, rail and air freight, and warehousing and inventory management.

“Northline’s investment is a vote of confidence in the Western Australian economy which is showing positive signs of improvement through recent sustained growth in commodity prices.

“We’re also seeing strong growth in key industry sectors including mining, construction and retail.”

The new facility includes 11,000 square metres of warehousing space with modern high-bay racking, along with a wash bay and container servicing area.

The new Perth facility is the fourth facility developed for Northline by the Gibb Group.

The company has opened new depots in Adelaide, Darwin, Brisbane, Townsville and Sydney, as well as increasing its capacity with a dedicated depot in Mackay.
