TWO new appointments have been made to the board of Victoria International Container Terminal, with prominent industry figures Philip Lovel AM and Tony Cousins stepping up to the plate.

Mr Lovel was chief executive of the Victorian Transport Association for 26 years and is the first executive director/CEO to be a life member of that entity.

As an experienced civil engineer with an MBA in marketing and operations he is said to have an understanding of the importance of safety and industrial relations.

He is also an experienced board member.

In 2007 he was awarded membership (AM) in the general division of the Order of Australia in recognition for work in safety and productivity in road transport.

Tony Cousins has had many years’ experience in the maritime and shipping industry, starting his career at sea achieving his Master Class I certificate.

He came ashore with P&O Ports where he held several senior executive roles in Australia and New Zealand.

He then led the establishment of PB Towage in the Australian tug industry.

More recently he was with the Port Authority of NSW where he focused on innovation and business plan development.

He is also a member of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority Advisory Committee and a director of the benevolent Australian Mariner’s Welfare Society, an Ambassador for the Sydney Heritage Fleet and a long-term volunteer Community Representative on the Wylie’s Baths Trust, with stewardship of the iconic, heritage listed ocean pool in Sydney’s Coogee Bay.

Meanwhile Brian Watson AO is stepping down from the board after five years.

Senior vice president and Asia Pacific regional head for parent company ICTSI, Andy Dawes, thanked Mr Watson for his contributon.

“Thank you Brian for the many years of service to the board, for your guidance throughout the project phase and seeing VICT into becoming a fully operational terminal,” Mr Dawes said.
