THE Australian Border Force has issued a clarifying statement confirming those arrest for a major drug importation were not customs brokers.

During a joint press conference on Thursday 5 December with the ABF and AFP, comments were made in regard to the arrest of three people.

“References were made that two of the people arrested were ‘customs agents’ and ‘customs brokers’. These references were inaccurate,” the ABF stated.

“Investigations are ongoing and no further comment will be made at this time.”

The reports had caused concern among the customs broking community, with fears of reputational damage.
