STEVEDORE and Brisbane Lions AFLW star Jessica Wuetschner is recovering in hospital after being struck by lightning at the Port of Brisbane last weekend.

According to a statement from the Brisbane Lions, Ms Wuetschner, 27, a DPWA employee, was working on a ship in a crib, held up by a crane, when lightning struck a pole she was holding in the crib.

She was transported to hospital and later discharged.

According to the Lions’ statement, she sustained no physical injuries and is resting at her home, supported by her mother, club staff and teammates.

“Physically I am A-OK, but I’m still processing things mentally,” she said.

“I am feeling a bit flat physically so will be resting my body.

“I was very lucky and I’m feeling very fortunate.

“The doctors have given me the all clear to return to [football] training, so I’m looking forward to getting back to footy, getting back to normal.

“Thank you to everyone for their care and concern.”

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning and sources told DCN a large storm front had rolled in.
