BRIDGET McKenzie has resigned as both agriculture minister and Deputy Leader of the Nationals, following weeks of scrutiny over her funding allocations during her term as sports minister.

An investigation by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet found she breached ministerial standards by failing to disclose her membership of a gun club that received almost $36,000 from a sports grants program she oversaw.

In a statement, Nationals leaders and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said Senator McKenzie would remain as The Nationals’ Senator for Victoria.

“I would like to thank Senator McKenzie for her work as part of the leadership team since she became Deputy Leader and Minister in December 2017,” Mr McCormack said.

“I know she will continue in her efforts to serve the people of Victoria and Australia.”

The position of Deputy Leader of The Nationals is to be decided by the party during a meeting this week.

Mr McCormack is to act as the Minister for Agriculture until a new Minister is appointed.
