GLADSTONE Ports Corporation says it has extended the community’s access to local waterways, with new walking trails in the Gladstone Marina Parklands opened to the public.

The 800 meters of new pathway is the first stage of the project and links the area behind CQUniversity to opposite the Gladstone Seafarers Centre.

People, community and sustainability general manager Rowen Winsor said the two-stage project was laying the foundations to connect GPC’s Spinnaker Park to the East Shores Precinct.

“We are looking to link up all of our parklands facilities to provide more areas for the community to enjoy,” Ms Winsor said.

“We have so many keen runners, families and your casual afternoon walkers out and about in our parklands and this project is about providing them safe areas to undertake the activities they enjoy.

“The two stages will add just under two kilometres of pathways to our existing facilities – the marina loop just got a lot bigger.”

Stage one of the project is expected to be finished in May, with stage two completion set for the second half of 2020.  Park users are expected to experience no impacts when visiting the parklands.
