THE 29th Asian Shipowners’ Association annual meeting and conference, scheduled for Darwin this May, has been cancelled.

Maritime Industry Australia, which was to have hosted the event, said they cancelled the event after the ASA chairmen met via teleconference and made “the difficult decision” to cancel based on the uncertainty and travel restrictions in place as a result of COVID-19.

As a consequence, MIAL will also cancel the SEA20 conference that was to be held in conjunction.

“MIAL would like to thank everyone for supporting our endeavours to host this event and it is deeply regrettable that this is the outcome,” Maritime Industry Australia CEO Teresa Lloyd said.

“We hope to reschedule the SEA conference for either later this year or early next.

“Working in this climate of uncertainty is incredibly difficult so it is likely to be later than sooner.”

Daily Cargo News recently reported that the Intermodal Asia conference, originally scheduled for March 2020, had been rescheduled for 14–16 July in Shanghai following the virus outbreak.
