INCLEMENT weather failed to deter a strong turnout for the Shipping Australia 2020 Industry Golf Day at Coast Golf Course, Little Bay, on 4 March.

According to Shipping Australia, heavy rain in the morning cleared by noon, providing perfect weather for golf.

Players came from across the industry, including ports, towage providers, shipping agents, logistics companies, shipping companies and others, with the opportunity to catch up with old friends and enjoy the bonhomie.

Eleven teams took part, with the team from Qube Logistics winning taking out the Shipping Australia NSW golf trophy in what was said to be a keen contest.

All teams were back in the clubhouse in four and a half hours to finish off the day with food and drink.

“It is truly fantastic to see so many colleagues from the maritime sector come together to enjoy an afternoon on this beautiful course,” said SAL CEO Rod Nairn.

“There were a few nervous moments with the rain in the morning, but the day could not have turned out better.

“Congratulations to Damian and his team from Qube, they have been on the podium before and are hard to beat, but the competition is getting close with only 14 stokes between first and last.”

The game was played under the Ambrose Rules.

Shipping industry golf fans across the east coast can look forward to more golf in the near future.

The Phil Kelly OAM Perpetual Golf Challenge / SAL Victoria Shipping Industry Golf Day is to be held on Wednesday 18 March at the Waterford Valley Golf Course, Knoxfield. The SAL Queensland Shipping Industry Golf Day is to be held on April 22 at the Wynnum Golf Club.
