THE Marine Parklands owned by Gladstone Ports Corporation will soon be home to three new playgrounds.
GPC’s manager of people, community and sustainability, Rowen Winsor, said the parklands team were excited to see the upgrades come to fruition and looked forward to welcoming people back to play from Saturday 16 May as COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift.
“Upgrades on our playground equipment has been in the works for several months,” Ms Winsor said.
“Both the Nyarla and Wondoo areas are receiving brand new equipment, with Wondoo to feature two new playground structures.
“The Nyarla will open this week, and the Wondoo playgrounds are expected to be finalised in the coming months.”
Designed by big people for little treasures, the upgrades will be built by 100% Australian-owned Bundaberg-based business, Willplay.
Parks and recreation superintendent Graham Gambie said that the East Shores Water Park will remain closed for scheduled maintenance, taking advantage of the cooler weather and current restrictions.
“The Water Park has been in operation since 2014, and we are now required to undertake routine maintenance activities,” Mr Gambie said.
“The works require the Water Park to go through a drying out period of up to eight weeks’ prior to works commencing.
“We have taken advantage of the park being closed due to the COVID-19 restrictions, which has allowed us to bring these works forward and commence early, without too much inconvenience to the public.
“For those that have taken a birds-eye-view from Auckland Hill, you will notice that the East Shores 1B precinct will create new green open spaces, with a whopping 22,000 plants, 400 trees and 8500 square metres of turf – all recently planted.
“My team is so proud to provide these facilities to the community and we look forward to unveiling East Shores 1B very soon,” he said.
