TRADE remained steady at Port Kembla in June after an up and down start to the year, according to the latest trade statistics from NSW Ports.

In June, non-containerised trade through the port was 1.921m revenue tonnes, down less than 1% on May’s figures, and down 5% on June 2019. Of this figure, 58% consisted of exports and 42% imports.

Making up 90% of all exports was dry bulk (992,419 revenue tonnes), which was up 30% on the previous month and up 6% on the corresponding month in 2019. Break bulk exports (87,719 revenue tonnes) were also up on both May and June 2019, 31% and 23% respectively. RoRo exports, however, were down 39% on last month and down 51% on last year with 25,218 revenue tonnes (1,485 units).

Total imports for June were down 23% from May and 16% on June 2019. Dry bulk accounted for 61% of all imports (495,351 revenue tonnes), followed by RoRo (248,707 revenue tonnes, or 14,553 units) at 30%. Break bulk and bulk liquid made up the remainder (61,803 and 9642 revenue tonnes respectively).
