CARGO throughput at Gladstone Port totalled 10.22m tonnes in July, according to the latest available trade statistics from the port. This was a decrease of less than 1% on June’s figures. Throughput was also down on July 2019 by 4%.

Throughout the month, the port handled almost 8.4m tonnes of exports. These were dominated by coal (5.9m tonnes), LNG (1.7m tonnes) and alumina (498,508 tonnes). China was the destination for 24% of all exports, closely followed by India (22%). Next were Japan and the Republic of Korea (14%).

Imports for the port totalled 1.8m tonnes in July, with the main commodity being bauxite (1.6m tonnes). Caustic soda was the next largest (108,359 tonnes), followed by petroleum products (91,902 tonnes). Other Australian ports accounted for 88% of all the port’s imports. The Republic of Korea was the origin port for 5% of imports and 3% came from Indonesia.

There were 149 vessel visits to Gladstone throughout July, with 111 of these visits being export vessels. Of this, 62 vessels (62%) were for the export of coal.
