PORTS of Auckland, has signed a 10-year contract to implement the Containerchain Terminal Solution, consisting of its notifications vehicle booking system and eGate/Driver products.

Containerchain’s solutions will be implemented across Ports of Auckland operations including the Fergusson Terminal, South Auckland Freight Hub and Multi Cargo Wharves.

This agreement extends the use of Containerchain via the PortConnect stakeholder network, following the launch of the VBS at Port of Tauranga in late 2019.

It will be used to improve the automation and efficiency with which the country’s inland and sea terminals manage movements of containers and cargo through its ports.

Ports of Auckland CEO, Tony Gibson said, “As one of New Zealand’s largest ports, our focus is on automating processes and improving efficiencies so we can continue to deliver better service to the cargo community.

“Containerchain’s offering will help us provide our customers with an integrated solution that will provide visibility and standardisation across the key logistics nodes in the supply chain.”

Managing director of Containerchain, Chris Collins, said, “This is a fantastic outcome for Ports of Auckland and the PortConnect network.

“The benefits of implementing our integrated Containerchain solutions are vast, including optimal gate and yard efficiency for truck and container movements, improved turn times and lower operating costs for truck operators, and lower traffic congestion in and around the port precincts.

“Importantly, the Terminal Solution will provide greater visibility and proactive planning between cargo owners and freight forwarders and their transport service providers for moving cargo.”

Implementation of Containerchain at Ports of Auckland facilities will be rolled out progressively with completion expected in July 2021.
