PORT of Newcastle has called for expressions of interest for the supply of two mobile harbour cranes as part of what management says is a “long-term diversification program”.

The EOI seeks to align with Port of Newcastle’s plans to invest in port capability.

The announcement is part of “a suite of key strategic development opportunities to support the future diversification of the port”.

This would include the Newcastle Bulk Terminal, maritime precinct, automotive and automotive / ro-ro hub.

A separate project to install a $35m ship unloader at the NBT is reported to be due for completion in the second half of 2021, improving safety, environmental compliance and efficiency.

According to PON, the projects are part of a focus on creating a broad mix of trade opportunities for “a prosperous local, state and national economy, making full use of abundant channel, rail, road and land capacity to accommodate existing and new trade”.
