ANOTHER ship in the North Pacific this winter saw an incident in heavy weather. The incident on MSC Aries “impacted a limited number of empty containers”, according to MSC.

The company said initial reports from the vessel suggest that no cargo was spilled overboard.

The vessel was en route from Long Beach to Ningbo on MSC’s Sequoia service on Voyage US053S.

The Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries was built in 2020 and has a container capacity of 14,300 TEU.

“MSC is working closely with the necessary parties and authorities to allow the vessel to berth at the Port of Ningbo on or around 3 February, with a view to assessing the status of any containers damaged onboard and any further action to take,” the company said in a statement.

“This assessment will require some time and may impact the vessel’s schedule.”

The usual port rotation of the Sequoia service is as follows: Long Beach – Ningbo – Shanghai.
