MSC is launching a new weekly service from Asia to the US East Coast called the Palmetto.
The new service will be calling Vietnam and Yantian with direct connections to the US South Atlantic ports of Savannah and Charleston and New York. The rotation will be operated through the Panama Canal on the way to the US.
MSC said the new service would allow it to improve the distribution of the cargo flows in its existing network and improve schedule reliability.
The company said it expects to launch the new service from Asia in May, subject to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
Also, last week MSC announced a new service between South East Asia and the US West Coast.
It said it was launching the service with a “view to improving reliability in the transpacific network at a time when the entire market remains under considerable systemic pressure.
The company said its new Sentosa service should enable improved transit time between South East Asia and California and ensure MSC retains a direct Laem Chabang – Long Beach call in its transpacific network. It said this would compensate for the removal of the Laem Chabang – US call on its Jaguar service.
The Sentosa service rotation will be: Singapore – Tanjung Pelepas – Laem Chabang – Vung Tau – Long Beach – Shanghai – Ningbo – Xiamen – Singapore.
