ONE week after a fire erupted in its port engine room, MPV Everest is nearing Fremantle, where it is due to berth late on Tuesday.

A support vessel, GO Spica, is en route to rendezvous with MPV Everest and is less than 70 nautical miles from the vessel as of Monday afternoon.

While MPV Everest is underway using its own power, the support vessel was deployed as a precaution by MPV Everest’s owner, Maritime Construction Services.

The Australian Antarctic Division said all 109 expeditioners and crew on MPV Everest are safe and making preparations for their arrival into Fremantle.
