THE Australian cruise sector is working to stay abreast of developments regarding coronavirus, Australian Cruise Association chief executive Jill Abel says.

“We are continuously monitoring the situation and working closely with our members to keep them apprised of the direction being provided by the World Health Organization, the Prime Minister’s office and the ABF,” Ms Abel says.

“We are also working alongside CLIA to stay abreast of their advice around crew and passenger movement.”

Ms Abel’s comments came as at least 10 passengers of the cruise ship Diamond Princess, including two Australians, tested positive for a new coronavirus.

Diamond Princess is currently off the Japanese port of Yokohama.

According to CNN, the Diamond Princess, with more than 3700 passengers and crew, had been kept in quarantine at anchor since Monday after an 80-year-old passenger from Hong Kong was found to be infected.
