ANL fine-tunes TransTas service

EARLY next month ANL will introduce a number of changes to its TranzTas service between Australia and New Zealand.

The carrier says the enhancements are designed to improve schedule reliability, operational efficiency and transit times across the Trans-Tasman and New Zealand coastal network.

Effective from CNC Jawa voyage 2615/2616 (ETA Sydney 8th August), the service will introduce a revised port rotation, updated berthing windows and a second Auckland call, delivering improved connectivity and faster transit times to key Australian destinations, it says.

The new rotation will be Sydney — Melbourne — Auckland — Lyttelton — Nelson — Port Chalmers — Napier - Tauranga — Auckland (2nd) — Sydney. This compares to the current port order of Sydney — Melbourne — Auckland — Port Chalmers — Lyttelton — Nelson — Napier — Tauranga — Sydney.

According to ANL the key service improvements are:

• Revised berthing windows, enhancing schedule reliability and operational efficiency.
• A second Auckland call, providing faster transit times and improved connectivity into Sydney and Melbourne.
• An optimised NZ port rotation to address draft constraints at Nelson and improve overall network performance.
• Faster Auckland–Lyttelton coastal connections, supporting the efficient movement of domestic cargo throughout NZ.
• Expanded coastal service with direct South Island–Auckland connectivity.
• Improved transit times from Port Chalmers, enhancing connectivity through Tauranga to ANL and CMA CGM's wider service network.

It is notable that the revised rotation enables ANL to, at least partially, step into the north-south-north gap created by the closure of Swire Shipping’s Pacifica service, which operated between Auckland, Lyttelton and Marsden Point (the latter also a key connection to Swire international services).

The 1,740 TEU Moana Chief arrived for the final time at Lyttelton on 26 July from which it is due to daily overseas for drydocking and redeployment.

ANL TranzTas operates four vessels, the 1809 TEU Androklis, the 1781 TEU CNC Jawa, the 1809 TEU Green Wave and the 1756 TEU San Giorgio.
