BOLUDA Towage Australasia has been quick to raise its pulling power with the appointment of a business development executive.
Remko Hottentot is the new Director Business Development, effective immediately, bringing more than 40 years of experience in the global maritime sector, most recently in senior commercial, business development and technical roles with Lloyd’s Register.
He has also previously worked as Global Business Development Manager for Damen Shipyards, and as a Senior Consultant for London Offshore Consultants.
Boluda Towage Australasia managing director David Fethers said this marks the company’s first major leadership appointment following its transition from Smit Lamnalco to Boluda Towage, the world’s leading harbour and terminal towage operator. (Boluda Towage Australasia commenced operations on 1 October 2025, covering Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the wider region.)
“Remko has led business development, strategy, and client engagement across the globe, delivering consistent growth and innovation in complex maritime markets.
“In his new role, Remko will lead regional growth initiatives, focusing on strategic partnerships, service expansion, and the introduction of sustainable technologies and fleet capabilities across the Boluda Towage Australasia network. The appointment reflects Boluda’s strong commitment to local capability and long-term investment in the region.
“Remko’s appointment is a key step in further building a leadership team that combines local knowledge with global reach. His deep technical expertise, industry relationships, and passion for innovation will strengthen our ability to deliver for our customers and support our growth across Australasia.”
The transition of the former Smit Lamnalco fleet to Boluda Towage Australasia is underway, with Gladtsone’s SL Heron Island at the PNG Dockyard and Brisbane’s SL Awoonga at The Yard, Brisbane, in the process of becoming VB Heron Island and VB Awoonga respectively.
