THE BROOME floating wharf is open for business after eight years of work.

The final piece of the Kimberley Marine Support Base (KMSB) terminal was moved into place at the weekend and the Kimberley Ports Authority Harbour Master has issued Local Marine Notice 18-2025, confirming vessel movement parameters for the terminal.

A Facebook post has announced that the newly constructed facility is now officially open for business.

The terminal is now ready to accommodate a wide range of vessels, including small and large cruise ships, roll-on roll-off (RoRo) cargo vessels, small container ships, and general cargo vessels.

The 11,500-tonne floating structure has 9250 square metres of deck space and a 255 metre long berth line, and is 50 metres wide.

It will support vessels up to 348 metres length overall.

Engineered for 24/7 berthing, regardless of Broome’s extreme tidal fluctuations, the wharf is connected to shore via a 300 metre causeway and 85 metre linkspan bridge.

A heavy-lift high-performance crane can lift more than 120 tonnes with a 49 metre reach.

It handles RoRo, containerised, bulk, break-bulk, and project cargo.

Integrated diesel bunkering operates at 200,000 litres/hour.

“We look forward to welcoming our first customers in September and are committed to delivering efficient and reliable services to support your operations,” the post said.
