CLASSIFICATION society DNV has partnered with energy company Pavilion Energy to develop a digital LNG bunkering platform for Port of Singapore.

The “FuelBoss” platform was designed to improve process integrity, data transparency and operational efficiency in the end-to-end bunkering process.

DNV said the platform includes digital checklists and electronic bunker delivery notes developments.

FuelBoss was launched in early 2021 and has reportedly become the market leader in end-to-end digital bunkering of alternative fuels, with an initial focus on LNG.

The joint project builds off a co-operation agreement DNV and Pavilion Energy signed in 2021 to digitalise LNG bunkering in Singapore.

More than 400 bunkering operations have been completed so far using the system, connecting more than 20 different users with bunker suppliers (most of which are based in Europe).

DNV said users have reported time savings as an advantage of working digitally.

Pavilion Energy group CEO Alan Heng said the company has fully embraced digitalisation in its bunkering operations.

“Ahead of our LNG bunkering vessel entering into operation early next year, Pavilion Energy has dedicated our attention to ensuring the marine bunkering processes are managed as efficiently; and as transparent and trustworthy as possible,” he said.

“With the streamlining and optimising of processes, we are well positioned to partner our customers in achieving greater efficiency in their bunkering operations.”

Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, DNV’s regional manager South-East Asia, Pacific & India, maritime, said digitalisation will play a key role in shaping the maritime industry of the future.

“We are therefore thrilled to partner with Pavilion Energy on this pioneering initiative, which we believe will accelerate the adoption of digitalisation in LNG bunkering,” she said.

Captain M Segar, assistant chief executive (operations) of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, also welcomed the initiative.

“As the world’s leading and trusted bunkering hub, we welcome Pavilion Energy and DNV’s efforts to develop digital solutions for LNG bunkering to further increase the transparency and efficiency of bunkering operations and provide better assurance to LNG bunker buyers and suppliers in the Port of Singapore.”
