PILBARA Ports Authority has reported an increase in total throughput for the first month of this year, but a substantial decrease in imports.

The ports handled a total throughput of 62.7 million tonnes for January 2022, a 10% increase compared with the same month last year.  

Port Hedland delivered a throughput of 48.6 million tonnes, with iron ore exports accounting for 48 million tonnes. The total throughput figures were up 14% on those of January 2021.

Imports through Port Hedland totalled 144,000 tonnes, a decrease of 17% compared with January 2021.

Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 13 million tonnes in January, which was a 4% decrease from the same month last year.

It handled a total of 12,000 tonnes of imports, which was a 89% decrease from January 2021.
