DAILY Cargo News is pleased to announce Matt Jones as its new editor.

Mr Jones stepped into the role on Monday last week (5 February), succeeding former DCN editor Ian Ackerman.

DCN publisher Lindsay Reed said she was “absolutely delighted” to welcome Mr Jones into the team.

“Matt has a wealth of experience working across a number of well-respected mastheads, and a genuine enthusiasm for this industry and the editorial direction of DCN,” Ms Reed said.

“I am very much looking forward to working with him, and to seeing the fresh perspective he will bring to DCN.”

Mr Jones said he was glad to have joined the team and honoured to be editing Australia’s oldest daily publication.

“In my first week at DCN I’ve already grasped just how vital our subjects are to the country and the world,” Mr Jones said.

“I can’t wait to sink my teeth into maritime journalism and I hope to put my own spin on things at DCN to give our readers a unique insight into the industry.”

Also this past week, DCN journalist Abby Williams was promoted to senior journalist.

“Abby has been a breath of fresh air since she joined us in 2021, and she has already made a positive impression on the industry as an extremely talented and passionate maritime journalist,” Ms Reed said.

“I look forward to her further contributions to DCN, working closely with Matt and the entire team to deliver high quality, accurate and independent news to the industry.

“With Matt’s appointment as editor, Abby’s promotion to senior journalist is the icing on the cake, solidifying a strong DCN editorial team – and promising an exciting future!”
