THE CMA CGM Group will undertake a global reforestation initiative to plant 110,000 trees in 12 countries as part of local reforestation programs, with one tree representing each of the group’s staff members.
As part of this initiative, CMA CGM, in partnership with Trees for Survival will plant 3000 trees across New Zealand.
Trees for Survival is a charitable trust that works with schools and local communities to grow and plant native trees alongside waterways and on erosion-prone hillsides.
The landscape restoration projects supported by the group will occur in multiple locations across Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Wellington and Christchurch.
The program also includes an environmental education program for school children helping them understand conservation, revegetation, wetland restoration and protection of water quality.
This global reforestation initiative will deliver environmental, social and economic benefits within each of the local communities and throughout the countries involved in the project: Canada, USA, Peru, Brazil, France, Romania, Morocco, India, China, Philippines, Indonesia and New Zealand.
Beyond mitigating the impacts of deforestation, planting trees promotes the regeneration of soils and ecosystems that are crucial to preserving biodiversity.
In addition, a number of CMA CGM staff members will have the opportunity to take part in participatory plantings in one or more of the 12 locations worldwide.
