BUDDING Picassos of all ages have their paint brushes at the ready, with close to 20 people already registered to take part in the highly anticipated Paint the Port annual art competition.
Providing amateur and professional artists from the Gladstone, Rockhampton or Bundaberg regions with an exciting opportunity to present their unique portrayals of port activities and infrastructure, Paint the Port boasts four categories and a chance to win a share of $1,000 in cash prizes.
Gladstone Ports Corporation’s manger for people, community and sustainability, Rowen Winsor, said Paint the Port will be hosted at a new venue this year, the ARTmatters Gallery, located on Pitt Street.
“Located beside Auckland Creek, a stone’s throw away from our parklands and facilities, ARTmatters will be the new home of the exhibition,” Ms Winsor said.
“Artists from around our region are encouraged to be creative in their interpretation of our port facilities and create works for the whole community to enjoy.
“Registrations are open until March 6, with Cameron Curd the new Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum Curator joining our judging panel.
“We are very excited to have Cameron on board and can’t wait to see the pieces that our local artists create.”
The winning entry in each category will receive the following:
Open Category – $1,000 acquisitive cash prize
High School Category – $350 cash prize
Upper Primary School Category (Year 4 to Year 6) – $75 cash prize
Lower Primary School Category (Prep to Year 3) – $75 cash prize
