FREMANTLE Ports ship and cargo charges will rise from 1 July to keep pace with what the port says are movements in the Perth Consumer Price Index.

An email to clients from Fremantle Ports general manager – commercial and customer – Jamie Allardice, said the 4.6% jump in the Perth CPI for the year to the end of the March 2026 would be passed on to customers with the increase applied consistently across all charges.

In the email Mr Allardice said the charges will improve clarity and consistency across Fremantle Ports’ charging framework.

It included clarification of the charging basis for vessels occupying a berth when not working cargo, including defined allowance periods upon arrival and prior to departure; and what it said was the alignment of break bulk transhipment cargo storage and undercover storage charges from weekly to daily rates, consistent with other storage and handling charges.

The updated Ship and Cargo Charges for the 2026/27 financial year can be accessed on the Fremantle Ports website.

“Fremantle Ports remains committed to facilitating trade for a more prosperous Western Australia through the provision of reliable port services including the ongoing maintenance of port assets and infrastructure investment to meet operational and regulatory requirements,” Mr Allardice said.

The list of ship and cargo charges said ship berth hire charges will apply to vessels that remain alongside a Fremantle Ports berth when not working cargo.

It said this charge encourages the maximum utilisation of trading berths by levying a charge on ships not undertaking cargo exchange.

Tonnage charges are based on gross tonnage and levied to recover the costs and resources associated with the provision and maintenance of facilities.

For a vessel occupying a berth when nor working cargos, there is no charge for up to the first two hours upon arrival and up to the last two hours prior to departure, $205,5077 per hour.
