A NEW fuel discharge system has gone live at Mid West Ports Geraldton Port in Western Australia.
A Mid West Ports LinkedIn post said the Berth 5 fuel discharge system has taken six months of design, fabrication, and installation.
“Last Tuesday, fuel tanker Seaways Castle Hill became the first to use the system, smoothly discharging 12,000 tonnes of diesel,” the post said.
“The Port's Berth 6 fuel discharge facility has been its only means of fuel discharge this century, but in a few years, Berth 6 will be out of action as the Port Maximisation Project (PMaxP) extensions get underway.
“To ensure fuel tankers can still discharge at Geraldton during this time, the new Berth 5 fuel discharge system was developed. “This included pressure hydrotesting and certification to meet safety and performance standards.
“This milestone was made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of Agilitus (design), Kaefer (fabrication and installation), and our fantastic partners BP, ATOM, and FuelFix.”
