INTERNATIONAL law firm Clyde & Co has announced maritime, commodities and transport lawyer, Ernie van Buuren is to join the firm as a partner in December this year.

Mr van Buuren joins from Norton Rose where he was head of Transport for Asia Pacific and head of shipping for Australia.

He is said to bring with him “a wealth of legal expertise”, as well as being a qualified master mariner.

He has advised on high profile shipping, maritime and aviation matters in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, Fiji, New Caledonia, PNG and New Zealand.

He was admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria (1994) and the High Court of Australia (1996).

Clyde & Co partner Maurice Thompson said Mr van Buuren would make an important contribution.

“Ernie has extensive experience in providing advice on shipping, maritime, offshore and aviation matters in the Asia Pacific region,” Mr van Buuren said.

“His deep client relationships and technical expertise are a welcome addition to the firm.”
