PILBARA Ports Authority has delivered a total monthly throughput of 63.7 million tonnes for the month of March 2020.

This throughput was a 27% increase compared to the same month in 2019.

This increase can be partly attributed to the impact of ex-tropical cyclone Veronica, which crossed the Pilbara coast in March 2019. It closed the Port of Port Hedland for 92.5 hours, the Port of Dampier for 132 hours and the Port of Ashburton for 109.5 hours, and contributed to a 13% decrease in March 2019 throughput figures compared to March 2018.

The total throughput for the 2019/20 financial year to date is 524.7Mt, an increase of 3% from the same time last year.

The port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 47.2Mt, of which 46.7Mt was iron ore exports. The monthly throughput was a 29% increase from March 2019.
