MINISTER for trade Dan Tehan welcomed the arrival of Mr Simonet as Austrade’s new chief.

He said Mr Simonet’s business acumen and “international perspective” will help Australian businesses succeed on the world stage.

“Austrade plays an important role helping Australian businesses access international opportunities and securing investment to grow our industries,” Mr Tehan said.

“From providing direct assistance to tourism operators, helping our exporters diversify to new overseas markets, and securing air freight for premium perishable goods and critical imports.”

Mr Simonet was most recently group CEO and managing director of Kathmandu Holdings, which comprises the Kathmandu, Rip Curl and Oboz brands. He is a former CEO of Radley London and international director of Seafolly Group, with extensive experience in retail and international business development.

Mr Simonet said he was excited and energised to be joining Austrade.

“I acknowledge the critical role Austrade is playing in a world full of challenges (and opportunities). It is a privilege to join the Austrade team and the Australian Public Service,” he said.

Mr Tehan thanked acting Austrade CEO Tim Beresford for his strong leadership of the agency since June last year.
