PORT and supply chain operator DP World Australia has announced the addition of fie new rubber tyred gantry cranes to its operation at Sydney’s Port Botany, due to arrive in April 2022.

The gantry cranes will replace five previously commissioned RTGs, offering reduced fuel consumption as part of a DP World Australia commitment to investing in infrastructure and sustainability throughout its operations.

Andrew Adam, CEO of DP World Australia said, “Providing 45% more fuel efficiency, the RTGs are fitted with the latest cabin design with more reliable controls and switches, variable speed power units and improved spreader design to assist productivity.

“With Kalmar selected as the successful vendor, the five new RTGs will supplement our existing fleet of eleven Kalmar RTGs already in service at our Sydney Terminal and will be delivered fully assembled and pre-commissioned upon discharge, to reduce time taken entering service.”

At a total investment of around $15m, the new RTGs are part of DP World’s ongoing renewal of yard equipment at Sydney’s Port Botany Terminal for continued efficiency and enhanced performance across the Australian market.
