A SERIES of workshops around the country, bankrolled with $50m from the federal government, are aimed at helping Australia leverage maximum value from wine exports.

Australia is the world’s sixth largest wine producer and the fifth largest exporter, with two thirds of local wine making it overseas at a value of $2.8m in 2018.

The workshops are part of a three-year plan to increase the value of wine exports to $3.5bn.


Agriculture minister David Littleproud said the government had doubled the number of workshops.

“This is about being loud and proud about Australian wine,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Wine Australia will run 50 export workshops and 26 tourism workshops so smaller wineries can make a big splash around the world.

“Workshops will be run in every Australian wine region over seven months.”

Australia competes in the global wine market with such nations as South Africa, New Zealand and Chile, as well as parts of Europe.
