INDUSTRY body the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia has released a white paper into the role of Blockchain technology in the international supply chain.

The document was co-authored by Scott Carson and Gerardo D’Angelo and trade lawyer Andrew Hudson from Rigby Cooke, with additional contributions from Adam Butler, Tim Gray and Taras Lubczyk.

CBFCA chief executive Paul Damkjaer said the release of the document was timely.

“The continued development of Blockchain based technology creates a business environment of both opportunity, risk and in some cases uncertainty for industry and government,” Mr Damkjaer said.

“The challenge for Australia is not to be a follower with the evolution of data utilisation and digitisation within the international supply chain.”

Mr Damkjaer thanked the authors and contributors for their efforts as well as the Australian International Trade and Transport Development Fund which funded in part, “the enormous research required for this white paper”.

“The CBFCA intends to further educate and assist members with this new technology during 2020,” he said.
