MEDLOG adding new sites, services

MSC’s landside logistics division MEDLOG is continuing a relentless expansion of activity across Australia as it increases its penetration of local supply chains.

MEDLOG Oceania’s Minto facility now offers an expanded range of biosecurity, treatment and inspection capabilities, supported by integrated depot and logistics services.

The company says the site provides a practical solution for cargo requiring cleaning, fumigation, inspection and specialised biosecurity handling, “helping create a more efficient path through the supply chain”.

“Cargo handling, treatment coordination and depot services are delivered through a single facility to help streamline the compliance process,” a company statement read.

“Backed by MEDLOG's broader transport and logistics network, this helps reduce complexity and improve cargo flow.”

MEDLOG Minto operates under Approved Arrangement N3688, enabling the site to provide: Class 1.3 - Sea &Air Freight Depot (Restricted); Class 4.3 – Cleaning Class 4.6 – Fumigation; and Class 14.4 - Rural Tailgate Inspection.

MEDLOG Minto was previously a Qube facility, sold to property giant Goodman in April 2025 for $200million. It was then leased to MEDLOG in the following September.

Meanwhile, MEDLOG’s Emerald Intermodal Terminal, “puts a rail-connected container facility on Central Queensland's doorstep”.

Containers are positioned on site, packed locally and connected to Brisbane and East Coast port gateways by rail, creating a more efficient inland-to-port solution, MEDLOG says. Supporting two-way freight, the terminal handles agricultural commodities, grain, general containerised cargo and project freight, with import cargo and equipment also moving efficiently back into the region.

Empties held at Yamala and drawn from Brisbane as demand builds, so a box is available in the region when it is needed. Scheduled rail services from the terminal to Brisbane and the East Coast gateways mean “your freight leaves by rail, not on a queue of trucks … (there’s) a team that packs containerised grain to export standard every season, with handling equipment and container supply in the same place”.

The Emerald site was part of the company’s purchase of Seaway’s Intermodal Division earlier this year, which also included a Toowoomba facility in Queensland and road, rail, and warehousing services, connecting regional exporters and importers across key container catchment areas in Sunraysia, southwestern Victoria and Melbourne.

Meanwhile, MEDLOG is deep into the redevelopment of the former Melbourne Markets site in the ports Swanson/Dynon precinct, which the Victorian Government handed over to the Port of Melbourne late last year.

MEDLOG was subsequently announced as the major tenant of the 39-hectare site in April this year.

MEDLOG is developing the Melbourne Market Site as an integrated intermodal freight and logistics hub it says will be one of Australia's most efficient container logistics gateways. When fully-realised the site will link the Port of Melbourne, South Dynon and interstate rail networks across Australia, and handle both standard and broad-gauge services for domestic and interstate freight.

It includes an empty container park, an “urban freight consolidation centre, streamlining metropolitan distribution and time-sensitive freight”, and direct connectivity to the West Gate Tunnel and Melbourne's arterial freight network.

“By shifting more freight to rail, it also supports lower-emission supply chains and helps ease road congestion across metropolitan Melbourne,” MEDLOG says.
